SCHENECTADY- James T. Sharkey, 80, of Schenectady, died Wednesday January 11, 2006 at his daughter's residence after a brief illness. He was born in Albany and was the son of the late James and Margaret Sharkey.
Jim was a WWII Army veteran. He was appointed to the Albany Police Department in 1948 where he was a patrol officer for 10 years. He had then worked for many years at the former Albany Savings Bank, retiring in 1988. Jim was a member of the Polish American Citizens Club in Albany. He was an avid horse racing fan.
Jim is the husband of the late Dorothy M. Sharkey He is the devoted father of Cathy Smith and her husband Thomas of Schenectady. He is the brother of the late Thomas Sharkey and Elizabeth Beaudion. He will be missed by his beloved pets, Patsy and Cathy.
Funeral services will be Monday morning at 10:00 at St. Helen's Church, Schenectady where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Sunday from 2 to 4 pm at NewComer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Schenectady , 1411 Union Street, Schenectady, NY 12308.
