COLONIE – James V. Harris, 78, of Colonie, passed away on Saturday August 15, 2009 at the Inn of Community Hospice. He was born in Sutherland, VA and was the son of the late Bryant and Gertrude Harris.
James was a US Army veteran having served from 1955 through 1962. He was employed with the US Postal Service for 36 years in Albany. Mr. Harris was a member of the Capital City Masonic Lodge #78. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and Tiger Woods.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Clara Toney Harris. He is the devoted father of Michael C. Harris of Albany, Valerie (Jacob) White of Beltsville, MD., Russell D. (Susan) Harris of Lanham, MD and the late Jeanine Danielle Harris. He is the brother of Doris (David) Glass of Albany and the late Willie and John Harris. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, a God daughter, several nieces and nephews and many cousins.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 12 noon at Union Missionary Baptist Church, 3 Morton Ave. Albany. Calling hours will be Saturday from 10 am to 12 noon at the Church. Interment will be on Monday at Saratoga National Cemetery. At the request of the family, Memorial contributions are suggested to Community Hospice of Albany, 445 New Karner Rd. Albany NY 12205.
