James J. Van Buren, 86, passed away at home on July 13, 2022.
Jim was born in Hudson NY in 1935. He is son of the late Raymond and Lannie Van Buren, and brother of the late Charles Blanchard.
He was a graduate of Hudson High School and Cobleskill College. Jim proudly served in the United States Army and NY State National Guard. He retired with 39 years of service with Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation as a lineman and Right-of-Way representative. He was a member of the Niagara Mohawk 25 Year Club and Retiree's Luncheon Club with many of his friends. Jim was a proud member of the IBEW.
He and Nancy enjoyed many winters of retirement in Palm Harbor, FL. Jim was a longtime volunteer of the Special Olympics and a past member of the Colonie Elks. Jim's passion was playing golf which he did for 60 years; a 2001 hole-in-one at Stadium Golf Course was a personal highlight for him. He was an avid sports fan who loved the NY Yankees and Philadelphia Eagles.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Nancy, children James Van Buren (Marianne), Robert Van Buren (Kate) and Lori Van Buren (Liz) as well as grandson Jake Van Buren and sister-in-law Joanie Barbier.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday July 16th from 11am-2pm with a service starting at 2pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude's Hospital and The Community Hospice.
