Albany- James T. Welch, 75, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 20, 2023. He was the son of the late William and Elizabeth Welch of Albany, New York.
After attending Cathedral Academy and graduating from Cardinal McCloskey high school in 1968, James enlisted in the United States Army where he served proudly as Military Police in Okinawa, Japan from 1969 to 1971 until his honorable discharge. James worked for 17 years for the Internal Revenue Service and retired as a Courier for St. Peter's Health Partners after over 20 years of service.
James enjoyed spending time with his entire family especially his Sundays with Anna and Weiland. He was a devoted fan of the New York Yankees, Miami Dolphins, and Larry Bird's Boston Celtics. James was an avid golfer who enjoyed watching Phil Mickelson play. When he wasn't spending time with his family, James was enjoying a cup of coffee with friends, John E., Ricky C., Philip B., Bill D., Jimbo M., and Pat C..
James is survived by his daughters, Alicia (Brian Zayhowski) Welch Pontore and Nicole (Russell) Dauphinais; grandchildren, Andrew Sheehan, Josephina Pontore, Tiffany Zayhowski, and Anna and Weiland Dauphinais; and many great grandchildren; brother, Robert (the late Loretta) Welch, of Latham, New York; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to his parents, James is predeceased by his siblings, Helen, William Jr., Patricia, Charles, and Sandra; and his close friend, John Zaloga.
Calling hours will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Road, Watervliet, New York 12189 on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 from 9:30am to 11:30 am with a funeral service to follow at 11:30 am. Burial will follow the service at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, New York.
