NISKAYUNA – Jane F. Novotny, 72, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, October 1, 2012. Born on May 15, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Carleton and Mabel FitsSimmons. She graduated in 1958 from Morrisville Central School and obtained her registered nursing degree from Albany Medical Center School of Nursing in 1960.
Jane then worked at Albany Medical Center for the next eleven years, several of which were in the capacity of head nurse in the emergency room. After her marriage to Tom Novotny in 1972, she went to work for Certified Allergy Consultants in Albany until her retirement in the mid 1990's. Because of her superior skills and "take charge" abilities, she became head nurse with duties of office manager and head of research development for the practice. Her title was Clinical Specialist.
Jane had a passion for reading. She loved being surrounded by books. No electronic Kindle or Nook for her! Had she not become an R.N., she would have loved being a librarian or book store owner. She was smart, capable, generous, and had a big heart.
In addition to her parents, Jane was also predeceased by her former husband, Thomas Novotny. She is the beloved mother of Brian (Donna) Novotny of Niskayuna and the cherished grandmother of Matthew and Kristen. She is the loving sister of Julie (Leighton) Bookhout of Cazenovia, NY. She is the nieces of Anne Kelly of Fort Myers Beach FL and Erieville, NY. Also surviving are her cherished nieces, Jill Meadows of Carbondale, CO and Sue Anne Bookhout of Cazenovia, NY and her dear friend and helper, Lynne Zeissler of Schenectady.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Funeral services will be Friday at 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at 12:30 p.m. on Friday in Morrisville Rural Cemetery, Morrisville, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions would be appreciated to the American Diabetes Association, 2 Pinewest Plaza, Suite 204, Albany, NY 12205 in memory of Jane F. Novotny.
