ALBANY – Jane Mullin passed away at home on Sunday, April 9, 2006, surrounded by her four children. Born in Salem, NY, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Theresa Pekins. Jane was a graduate of Washington Academy. She worked as a dental assistant for three years before going to work for the telephone company, where she became a supervisor. She married Frederick W. Mullin on January 9, 1949 and left the telephone company to raise a family. Jane was active in the lives of her children and her neighborhood. She was elected council delegate and served as vice president and president of the Albany School 26 PTA when it was a neighborhood school. She was awarded an honorary life membership to the Albany City Council for her outstanding work. Mrs. Mullin was trained by the American Red Cross as a nurse's aide and worked at Albany Medical Center. When her children were older, Jane went to work for the City of Albany and became a popular school-crossing officer. For 28 years, she watched many neighborhood children grow up as she saw them safely to and from Albany Public School 26. Jane represented her neighborhood in the development of Westland Hills Park and worked with RPI students and the Washington Avenue Association in what became a neighborhood park on one side and Westland Hills Little League on the other. Jane and her husband were active volunteers in Westland Hills Little League for over 30 years. She served on the Ladies Auxiliary as president, vice president and treasurer. Jane was also a manager for girl's softball and was a coordinator for the girl's program. She served on the league's board of directors, and with her husband, was awarded emeritus membership. Mrs. Mullin was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church. Jane was predeceased by her beloved husband, Frederick M. Mullin on December 17, 1992. She is survived by her four loving children, Carole (Peter) Ricci of Latham, Jackie (Rick) Saxton of Saratoga, Frederick (Karen) Mullin of Colonie and Arthur (Maria) Mullin of Wynantskill. She is the sister of Hazel Andrews of Latham, Jacqueline Marlow of Shelburne, VT and Joan Macura of Granville. Jane is also survived by nine cherished grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Jane's family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Mona, her aide and her nurse, Sue.
