Janet Sheehan

August 27, 1944 — January 15, 2013

VOORHEESVILLE – Janet "Jan" Sheehan, died Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital. Born in Albany on August 27, 1944, she was the daughter of the late William and Eleanor (Butcher) Heyer. Jan graduated from Albany High School and then worked for two years at Detroit Supply before beginning a career at New York Telephone where she worked for thirty-one years. She retired in a management position as a Data Implementer with NYNEX (now Verizon).

Jan was a real people person, easily making friends wherever she went, sharing stories and jokes with them at all of the establishments she and her husband Joe frequented. The friends Jan considered special in her life are too many to list, but you know who you are. Always looking for an excuse to bring people together, she would host gatherings ranging from Thanksgiving dinners with family at her home to summer "pasta parties" for friends at camp at Thompson's Lake. Loving to travel, Jan and Joe would meet friends for vacations in the casinos of Las Vegas and Atlantic City (where Jan and Joe were part of the infamous gang of five, the Casino Codgers) to the warmer parts of the world, such as the Florida Keys(including Key West), Aruba, and their favorite Caribbean Island, St. Maarten. Jan will be sorely missed by all fortunate enough to have known her. She will be especially missed by her beloved husband, Joe. Be assured that the next time someone tells a really funny story Jan will be up there laughing along with everyone else.

Jan is the beloved wife of Joseph Sheehan. Together they shared a wonderful, fun-filled thirty-year journey through life. She is the sister of Robert (Carol) Heyer of Delmar and the special aunt of Dawn Heyer of New Scotland. Also surviving are Jan's nieces and nephews, Daniel, Michael, James, Christine and Patricia. Jan's family would like to thank the many people of Hospice and St. Peter's who did their best to help and comfort Jan throughout her ordeal.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Saturday from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. to join in the celebration of Jan's life at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave).
