Sherlock, Janice
Malta, NY – Janice Jean Contois Sherlock's heart of gold stopped beating on Wednesday March 10, 2010 and she left this world surrounded by her loving family, to be in the loving embrace of God. Born in Troy in 1950, Janice was educated in the North Colonie School District and graduated from Shaker High School in 1969. She was the daughter of the late Gerard M. and Jean H. Contois.
She lived in Florida for several years before returning to the capital district and meeting her very special love and husband Edward Sherlock. Janice was deeply devoted to her family and friends. Janice's love of scouting and the example she set for others will never be forgotten. Hundreds of scouts from all over the country have been influenced from her commitment to helping others. Her devotion to Scouting led her to receive many accolades and awards too numerous to mention for her contributions to the Twin Rivers Council and the Boy Scouts of America. Following in the footsteps of her father, Janice sincerely believed in loyalty to family and friends, and daily lived up to his words, "Service to others is the rent we pay for the space we occupy on earth."
Janice worked at Russell Sage College in Troy for many years. She was in the Finance and Business office for several years before she took over as Administrative Assistant in the Psychology Department where she worked until her death. Janice was very well liked and will be sincerely missed by her colleagues.
Besides her devoted husband Edward, she leaves behind her children, Julie (Mark) Delfs of Malta; Jeffrey (Heather) Mantica of Albany; Brian Ruebenstahl of Albany; Mathias (Ashley) Jackson of Cohoes and Mariange Jackson Raimond of Malta. Also surviving are brothers, Gerard Contois of Brant Lake, James Contois of Claremont, NH, Joseph Contois, Sr. of Latham; Jacques Contois of Tennessee; sisters Judith Peters of Howe's Cave; Jennifer Williams of Florida and Jacqueline Contois of Florida. She was the cherished and adored Nana of Jonah, Ariana and Alixondra Delfs; Zachari, Zsofia and Zslone Mantica and Zoe Jackson. Their little faces would always warm her heart and maker her feel like the luckiest Nana in the world. Several dear aunts, uncles and many nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews also survive Janice.
The family would like to thank the Saratoga Hospital staff for their care and love of Janice during her stay as well as the Hospice Care Staff.
