TROY – Janie Louise Franklin, 82, passed away on Monday, September 7, 2009 at Samaritan Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Janie was born on October 12, 1926 in Greeleyville, SC and was the daughter of the late Fred and Minnie (Moore) Boyd. She worked as a certified nurse's aide for Van Rensselaer Manor Nursing Home in East Greenbush for over 20 years before retiring in 1989; prior to that she worked for Marshall Ray Factory in Troy. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family.
Janie is survived by her children, Ruby D. Edwards and Alyce T. Franklin both of Detroit, MI, Phillip A. Franklin, Loriann (Darryl) Cannon, Thomas C. Franklin and Jennifer M. Franklin all of Troy; her stepson, Luther (Doreen) Moore of Troy; her brother, David Boyd of Greeleyville, SC; her sisters, Sara Matthews of New Jersey and Barbara Jean Johnson of Troy; her aunt, Mary Ellen Wilson of New York City; and her very dear friend, Pearlie Mae Dukes of Troy. She is also survived by 23 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Willie Udell Franklin; her daughters, Betty Ruth Franklin and Elizabeth L. Franklin; her son-in-law, Richard Edwards; her sister, Lizzie Mae Sabb; her brother-in-law, Dalton Johnson.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Oak Grove Baptist Church, 514 7th Ave., Troy. Calling hours will be held prior to the service on Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church. Interment will be at Albany Rural Cemetery in Menands.
