COLONIE- Jean Roy, 75, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2017 at her home.
She was born on January 19, 1941 to the late Hjalmar and Maria (Takala) Leppenan in Albany.
Jean retired from the NYS Workers Compensation Board after 23 years of service. Jean was quite the conversationalist and everyone always enjoyed talking to her. It didn't matter what the subject matter was, Jean just enjoyed people and the world will be a much quieter place without her.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She enjoyed visiting the Saratoga Racetrack and was a lover of animals. She was a selfless and giving person, she was compassionate and always willing to lend a hand to someone in need. Both her spirit and her conversations will be very dearly missed.
Jean is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Lawrence Roy; daughters, Lisa (Daniel) Matera, Sheila (Nathan) Nakagawa; grandchildren, Renee (Matthew) Demers, Tyler Nakagawa, Daniel Matera, Chloe Nakagawa; siblings, Helen Bellanger, Miriam West, Ingrid Roy, Charles Carlson and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 from 4-6pm at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie, New York 12205. A memorial service to celebrate Jean's life will begin at 6pm on Tuesday at New Comer Funeral Home.
