Jeannine M. (Hendrix) Hurley, age 91, passed away peacefully at her home in Albany surrounded by family on Friday, February 26, 2016. She was born January 24, 1925 in Bruges, Belgium to Victor and Nellie (Godard) Hendrix.
At a young age, she and her family were faced with adversity during the Battle of the Bulge, December 1944 which brought many Americans to aid Belgium in the war against Germany. Through it all, she met an American soldier and ultimately, the love of her life. After surviving the war at age 20, she married her husband Harold wearing a wedding gown she made from a silk parachute. In 1946, she left Europe to follow her heart, learned to speak English, and quickly adapted to living in the United States. It was in Albany where she started her family and became the loving wife, devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother we always knew. She blessed many hearts with love, happiness and of course, her Belgian cooking.
She is predeceased by her brother Honoré Hendrix, beloved husband of 50 years, Harold E. Hurley, and daughter-in-Law Juliet F. Hurley. She is survived by her children: Harold, Dr. Richard Hurley (Debra) and Suzanne Ross (Wayne), her grandchildren Christianne, Michael (Maggie), Kimberly, Eric, Dr. Pamela Hurley, Steven Ross (Christina), and Jeffrey Ross (Dr. Stephanie Ross), her great grandchildren Julia, Megan Hurley, Emiliana, Juliana, Derek, Nicholas and John Ross, and her niece Linda Hofmann.
Calling hours will be on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd, Colonie, NY. A Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at 10:00 am at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow the service at Albany Rural Cemetery, Menands.
