COLONIE – Joan A. Townley, 81, of Colonie, passed away on Wednesday April 21, 2010 at Albany Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. She was born in Sheffield, England and was the daughter of the late George and Dorothea Ashton.
Joan was a successful businesswoman and served as Vice President of Operations for Business Environments by RAS in Colonie for many years, retiring in 1997. She was a longtime active member of the Albany Chamber of Commerce and served in several capacities and roles. Joan was proud to serve as the first female President of the Chamber of Commerce during the 1980's and 1990's. She enjoyed traveling in her retirement years.
Joan was predeceased in 1999 by her husband of 43 years, George H. Townley. She is the beloved mother of Doreen (Paul) Tomisman and Vicky McNamara. Joan is sister of John Ashton and Pamela Johnson. She is the cherished grandmother of Jennifer Tomisman, Kelly Tomisman and Michael McNamara. She is the great grandmother of Kaitlyn Mercer, Michelle Mercer and Bailey Tomisman.
Funeral services will be Saturday morning at 9:30 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie. Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 7 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in Memorys Garden.
