COLONIE – Joan C. Leak, 80, of the Village of Colonie, passed away peacefully on Saturday October 30, 2010 at the Hospice Inn, surrounded by her loving family.
Joan was born in Albany and was the daughter of the late Lorenz and Cora Martin Willig. She was a 1947 graduate of Vincentian Institute. In her earlier years, Joan was the director of many benefit shows at St. Clare's Church and the Village of Colonie. She was a talented seamstress, costume and jewelry maker. Joan loved dancing and was the line dance instructor of her beloved group, the Village Country Western Line Dancers. She was the longtime Director of the H. B. K. Village of Colonie Senior Center. Joan was known for her passion for cooking. She was always preparing meals for her family, the seniors, parties or any function that needed her help. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Joan is survived by her beloved husband of 61 years, Frank A. Leak, Mayor of the Village of Colonie. She is the devoted mother of JoAnne (Kurt) Hellijas, Diane (Mark) Bauer and Roxanne Norwood. She is the cherished grandmother of Melissa (James) Frank-Williams, Scot Seguine (Liz Pastecki) and Richard (Allie) Norwood. She is the great grandmother of Jaden James Williams. Joan was predeceased by her sister, Shirley Berg. She is the sister in law of Willard Berg. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Thursday from 3 to 7 pm at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie. The Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday morning at 10:00 at St. Clare's Church, Colonie. Interment will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands. Memorial contributions may be made to H.B.
