Lechliter-Diveris, Joan Daisy "Yia Yia"
Joan Daisy "Yia Yia" Lechliter-Diveris, 67, passed away Tuesday October 13, 2009 at St. Mary's Hospital surrounded by her loving family after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
She was born in Elmira, NY the 3rd child of the late John Lynn and E. Louise Lechliter. As a single mother of 6, she achieved many professional accomplishments. Her career began with an in home child care business. Upon receiving her Bachelor's Degree from Elmira College, she worked for several years as a social worker, finally culminating in a 25 year career in Real Estate as an Associate Broker here in the capital region. She enjoyed her flower and vegetable gardens, her 18 grandchildren and the annual family trips to Cape Cod and camping. She loved knitting, crocheting and sewing; her receiving blankets and baby booties are legendary. But her true passion was her family. She was a free spirit and lover of life, always giving more than she received. She will be greatly missed and loved always.
Yia Yia is survived by her husband of almost 25 years Hercules John Diveris, 6 children: Gwendolyn Maturo-Grasso (Richard), Billy Gooshaw Jr. (Kathryn), James Gooshaw (Kimberly), Brenda Gooshaw Samson (Stephen), Cynthia Gooshaw-Shafer (Tal) and Suzanne Runyan (Charles), step-children: Michael, Christopher, Elizabeth, John and George, 18 grandchildren: Amalia, Lawrence, Angela, Mary, Mitchum, Austin, Madison, Savannah, Braidee-Ann Joan, Nathan, Jonathan, Katherine, Thomas, Rebecca, Eric, Samantha Daisy, Alysia and Makenzy Daisy, and 5 siblings: James M. Lechliter, Gerald L. Lechliter, Kathy H. Robinson, Daniel E. Lechliter and Don Charles Lechliter. She is also survived by her beloved canine companion Sarona, who accompanied Yia Yia everywhere.
Funeral service will be held Sunday 3:00pm at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155 south of Central Ave.). Calling hours will precede the service from 12:00 noon to 3:00pm Sunday at the funeral home. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
