Joan Roberta Diener of North Fort Myers, Florida, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2006, at Lee Memorial Hospital after a long illness. Joan and her husband, Les, moved from Clifton Park, NY in 1991, to their new home in Pine Lakes in North Fort Myers, Florida.
Joan was born on April 23, 1929, in Albany, NY, was educated in Roessleville School in Colonie. She retired from General Electric Company (KAPL) in Schenectady, NY in 1987. Joan and Les are former members of the Shenendehowa United Methodist Church in Clifton Park, NY. Joan formerly taught Sunday school at Carmen Methodist Church, and served as an assistant in local as an assistant in local Girl Scout troops. Joan was and avid roller skater and did both freestyle and dance for many years.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Les, her four children, Robert Charles (Carol) Diener of Newark, NY, Kathleen Joan (Craig) Lanning of Waterford, Karen Jean Diener of Colonie, and William James (Kathryn) Diener of Webster, NY, and four grandchildren, Stephanie Lynn (Jeffrey) Geller, Matthew Thomas Lanning, Karl William Diener, and Keith Robert Diener. Her parents, Robert W. and Lillian A, Scofield, preceded Joan in death.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:00 am at NewComer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Calling hours will be Thursday from 5 to 8 pm at the funeral home. Internment will follow at St. Johns Lutheran Cemetery.
