Mariaville- Joan Downs, 80, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2024 while under the compassionate care of hospice. Born in Amsterdam, she was daughter of the late Edward and Mary Giaminelli
She attended school in Amsterdam and Scotia. Joan began a long career as a hairdresser in 1969 and worked from her Mariaville home from the 1970’s to 2022. In her later years she was also employed by the Shalmont School District working as a school bus monitor. During her younger years Joan was an accomplished horsewoman. She was a past member and president of the Dusty Boots Riding Club. Joan always enjoyed training her dogs and was a past member of the Schenectady Dog Training Club and the Albany Obedience Club. She was always proud of the awards that she had won showing her giant Schnauzer dogs.
Joan was predeceased by her daughter, Donna Lather. She is also survived by her cousin Richard Giaminelli.
Joan leaves behind many close and caring friends in the Mariaville Community.
In following Joan’s wishes, there will be a graveside service held on Monday June, 24 at 1:30pm at Park Cemetery, 128 Sacandaga Road, Scotia, NY.
