COLONIE - Joan (Ganschow) Roeser, 77, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 1, 2008 at The Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
Joan was born on June 2, 1930 in Buffalo, NY and was the daughter of the late Arthur F. and Elsa Reisig Ganschow. She married Allen Roeser in 1953 and they moved to the Albany area in 1962 where she worked in food services for South Colonie School District for over 25 years and retired as assistant head cook in 1995. Joan enjoyed camping and traveling throughout the United States. She was a sports fan to her children and grandchildren, where she watched her son play in the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa. She was also a Girl Scout troop leader and managed a girls' softball team in Colonie. Joan was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Albany, where she taught Sunday School for many years.
Joan is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Allen Roeser; her children, Kathryn (late Daniel) Elcox of Apache Junction, AZ, Dwight (Donna) Roeser of Williston, VT, Judith (Robert) Ahl of Latham, Bruce (fiancée Silvana) Roeser of Scottsdale, AZ, and Susan (Ron) Raymond of Tonawanda, NY; her grandchildren, Michael (fiancée Maureen), Ryan, and Kaitlin Ahl, and Brett and Evan Roeser. She was the sister of Marjorie (John) Sizer and the late Arthur Ganschow. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Ora Ganschow, a niece, and many nephews.
The family would like to extend a warm thank you to Joyce Chambers, Joan's home health aide for the past several years, for her loving care.
Family and friends are invited on Wednesday at 9 a.m. at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.) then to St. John's Lutheran Church, Albany where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Colonie. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
