Joan Elizabeth Griffin

Albany- Joan Elizabeth Griffin, 83, passed away Sunday, January 23, 2022, with her loving family by her side. Joan was the daughter of the late John Thomas and Elizabeth Kirkley. Joan was the devoted wife to the late Solly James Griffin.

Joan retired from the Stratton Administration Veterans Hospital, where she worked as a CNA then transferred to Timekeeper. She loved going to BINGO, traveling to different casinos, and playing cards. She loved her family and especially spending time with her children, grands, and great grandchildren. She was also the surrogate mother to several others in her family and the community. Joan being very artistic loved writing poetry, painting, and drawing.

Joan is survived by her children, Ronnie Perry (Gail), Tony Griffin (Joyce), Solly Griffin, Guytrell Griffin, Tawny Griffin, Valerie Griffin (Paul Stewart), and Lajaunda Woodard; 17 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; her siblings, James Prince (Mary DiCarlo), Kevin Crayon, Essie Kirkley, Debra Kamara and Denise Kirkley-Cain (Howard Cain Jr.); her aunt, Maude Myles, uncle, Gus Kirkley and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her sister, Joyce Prince and brothers, Wayne Crayon, Bruce Crayon, Keith Crayon (Ann), and Kim Crayon.

Calling hours will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Rd., Watervliet NY 12189, on Wednesday February 2, 2022 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. A Memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to the family at 55 Slingerland Street contact Tawny Griffin or Valerie Griffin. The family will have a repast at the family home of 55 Slingerland Street, Albany NY 12202, between the hours of 6 pm-8 pm.
