Joan M. Kurtzner

Loudonville- Joan M. Kurtzner, 79, passed away on July 21, 2023. Joan was born on September 24, 1943 in Albany, NY to the late Herbert and Gladys Beckert.

Joan attended school in Latham, NY and graduated from Shaker High School in 1961. Joan was a water safety instructor, and spent many summers at Littles Lake, in Menands, NY. One week after graduating from high school, she started with New York State as a stenographer. Through the years, she was able to advance through the state and retired as a Grade 23, as the head purchaser for the New York State Insurance Dept. In spite of not having a college degree, she was proud of the accomplishments that she obtained while working for New York State. After retiring, she enjoyed traveling, and spending many winters in Florida.

She was the president of the Colonie Seniors / Christ Our Light Senior Group. Joan was very good at organizing trips and events for the seniors to go on. The senior group would meet on Mondays for coffee and, to play cards. Joan enjoyed attending plays at the Mac Hayden Theatre. Joan took great pride in decorating, her beautiful Christmas tree, adorned entirely with crystal ornaments. Joan's pride and joy was her beloved granddaughters, and was their biggest supporter of their many activities, such as cheerleading and softball.

Joan is preceded in death by her son, Louis "Scott" Kurtzner.

Joan is survived by her son, Mark Kurtzner; granddaughters: Arianne and Emily Kurtzner; Sister, Carole A. (Alan R.) Knapp; life long friend, Audrey Reilly and a host of loving friends.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday July 27, 2023 from 6:00pm-8:00pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, NY 12205.
