LATHAM – Joan (Joany) L. Smith, 57, formerly of Bronx and Peekskill, entered into eternal rest on Monday April 4, 2011 at the Inn of Community Hospice. She was born in Philadelphia, PA and is the daughter of Minnie Smith and the late Joseph Smith.
Joany had worked as an accountant with the Lutheran Council and White Plains Nursing Home in New York City and more recently at Westledge Nursing Home in Peekskill, NY.
Prior to becoming ill, Joany enjoyed life to the fullest. She spent her time bowling, shopping and playing bingo however she found the most joy in spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. Joany also had to traveling. She had a passion for cruises but strangely feared the wideness of the sea.
Joany had a heart of gold and loved everyone. She was never quick to judge and was always available to lend an ear or provide a shoulder to cry on.
She is the beloved mother of Tavia T. (Arnold) Surgick and Monique Hampton. Joan is the sister of Joseph Smith Jr., Thomasina (Darrell) Spellman, Renee Brockington and Kenneth Smith. She is the cherished grandmother of Alliyah and TaQuan Parker, Raymier Williams, Arnayah and Andrayah Surgick and Joanee Jeanotte. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 12 noon at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, Albany. A calling hour will precede the service on Wednesday from 11 am to 12 noon at the Church.
