Joan Marie (Levanites) Divinsky entered into eternal rest on June 13, 2013 after a courageous 15 year battle with Alzheimer's disease. Joan was born on August 18, 1942 to Rose and Peter Levanites. She was a graduate of St. Joseph's High School in Albany. Joan worked at Tobin Packing Company where she met Bill, her husband of 49 years. After they were married they moved to Trenton, NJ for 2 years while Bill served in the Army. Joan was a homemaker for many years until her daughters went to college. She then started working as a secretary at the Van Rensselaer Manor Nursing Home and retired after her Alzheimer's diagnosis. Joan enjoyed cooking, gardening and animals, especially her canine companion Bouncer. Joan was a kind and caring person who gave so much to everyone she loved and knew. She will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
In addition to her devoted husband Bill, Joan is survived by her mother Rose Levanites and her daughters Michelle (Kevin) and Suzanne (Mike). She is also survived by a large family of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. She was predeceased by her father Peter and her brother Peter.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Van Rensselaer Manor for their many years of care.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 19th at 11:00am in the New Comer Canon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Burial will be at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, June 18th from 4:00pm to 7:00pm.
