ALBANY – Joan M. Duncan, 83, passed away on Monday, March 4, 2013 at Evergreen Commons Nursing Home and is finally at peace.
Joan was the daughter of the late John J. and May F. (Hammell) Hughes and sister of the late Barbara Galea. She worked at Staff Builders and later became a supervisor for Albany County Department of Social Services. Joan was her own person, she spoke her mind – whether you liked it or not; a strong-willed woman with a lot of spunk.
Joan's favorite things were vacationing in Lake George, and in particular, Atlantic City, sitting around the kitchen table with family and friends and took pride in keeping a meticulous home. She will miss her friends at Whitehall Court Apartments.
Joan is the beloved mother of Denise Futia (John Cummings), John Duncan and the late Joanne Reimer; loving grandmother of Scott Futia (Tia Whalen), Tammy Duncan and the late Peter Nardilillo and Tracey Reimer; cherished great grandmother of Gabriella and Anthony Futia and Brytni, Daniel and Tatiyana Duncan; cherished aunt of Steven (Mark Cayabyab) and Gregory (Angie) Galea and special grandmother to Dylan Galea.
Special thanks to the staffs at St. Peter's Hospital, St. Peter's Rehab, McAuley Residence and Evergreen Commons for their great care and compassion.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a calling hour on Thursday from 6 to 7 p.m. at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie with a memorial service immediately to follow at 7 p.m.
