Joan Maybo, 72
Joan Maybo, of Colonie, was called to heaven on December 23rd at 1:00 am. However, as usual she arrived 15 minutes early. She entered into eternal peace at Kingsway Nursing Home after a hard fought battle with ALS. Born in in Albany, NY on September 17, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Dorothea Manhey.
Joan attended Mercy High School in Albany and upon her graduation in 1963 she began
working for Niagara Mohawk Power Corp. and later Travelers Insurance and United Health Care where she served as Director of Operations for her final 15 years of employment. In retirement Joan enjoyed spending time at her camp on Caroga Lake with her family, working in her gardens and traveling with family and friends whenever she could.
Joan is survived by her daughter Kimberly (Jeff) Hughes of Scotia, son James (Kayla) of
Schenectady and her five grandchildren Emily, Hannah, Michael, Brenna and Caeley, her brother Richard (Cathy) Manhey and sister Judith (Joe) Hilton. She also leaves behind numerous loving relatives and friends.
Joan's family would also like to give thanks to the staff at Community Hospice and Kingsway Arms Nursing Center for their care, compassion and love for Joan in her final months.
A celebration of Joan's life will be held on Saturday December 30, 2017 with visiting hours from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm followed by a funeral service at New Comer Funeral Home located at 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie. The Rite of Interment will follow the funeral service at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Colonie.
