Joan E. Michael

Joan Elizabeth Michael, 64, of Alcove, NY passed away on the morning of January 27th, 2022 after her battle with Glioblastoma Multiforme.

Joan was born on January 4th, 1958 in Brooklyn, NY. She is survived by her three children Michael, James and Kerri Mulligan. As well as her sisters Mary Ann DeRise, Lee Ann Holstrom, Gerry Cuchel & Margaret Catalano and her partner Mitch Carkner. She is predeceased by her parents John & Mary Michael and her sister Denise Morse.

Joan Michael retired from her job as a school bus driver in January 2021. Joan loved spending time caring for her animals, especially her dogs and chickens. Joan loved to laugh and dance. She considered her sisters to be her best friends and they had so much fun when they were together.

Joan was a dedicated mother and very hard worker. She was a strong woman that had a perfect balance of caring and toughness. She grew up and spent half her life in Brooklyn, NY moving to upstate NY (Rotterdam) in 1989. She eventually started working for the local school district as a bus driver; a job she truly enjoyed. She later moved to Alcove, NY with her partner Mitch where they spent their time working on their land. She cared for chickens, bunnies, fish, & dogs. She loved coming home and taking care of their animals. I'm sure if anyone knew Joan from her years in Brooklyn, it would be hard to imagine her caring for farm animals but she loved it.

The horizon is just the limit of our view but obviously there is a whole world beyond it that we can't see.

Joan is just beyond the horizon - out of our sight but certainly not gone.

The memorial service for Joan Michael will be at Newcomers Funeral Home (Colonie) on Saturday, February 5, 2022 from 2-4pm where her service will follow at 4pm.
