Joan Ellen Heald Niles

Joan, born in Gloversville, NY went to be with the Lord on October 10, 2024. She passed away next to her husband Allen at home.

Joan was born on June 9, 1940 to the late Florence and Stewart Heald.

Joan attended Gloversville High where she graduated with a regent's diploma and went on to receive an AAS in Office Management from Utica of Syracuse University (1958-1960). 

Joan worked in a bank before raising her 3 children. She loved children and babysat for many families.

Joan had many dogs over the years and loved walking them with Allen.

Mom was an avid baker and made cookies from scratch, no less than every other day while we were growing up.

Joan loved spending time with her best friend and “sister” Edna Ryan. She never missed a Monday morning teatime.

Joan is a longtime member of Lisha’s Kill Reformed Church and sang in the choir for over 30 years. She enjoyed her Tuesday night Bible Study with the girls.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years and love of her life, Allen M. Niles; son, Mark S. Niles (Janet L. Niles) of Colonie, NY, daughter, Melissa N. Vicalvi (Matthew J. Vicalvi) of Schenectady, NY, and son Michael A. Niles (Nicole M. Niles) of Voorheesville, NY; grandchildren, David, Joshua, Noah (Jocelyn), Kira, Lilianna, and Corbin; and new great-granddaughter, Sophie.

Calling hours will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Rd., Watervliet, New York on Wednesday October 30, 2024 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm with a funeral service to begin at 6:00 pm.
