Joan Oakes

MENANDS-Joan (Foster) Oakes died on February 28, 2014 leaving behind her husband of 50 years Robert W. Oakes, Sr. and two children, Robert W Oakes Jr. of Franklin MA and Sabrina A Oakes of Schenectady, NY. She also leaves two grandchildren Tyler M. Oakes and Emma N. Oakes of Franklin, MA and special cousins Dorothy White, John Claydon and Robert Claydon.
Joan was a lifelong resident of Menands, NY. She attended Watervliet High School class of 1962. After graduating high school, she worked at New York Telephone Company in the mailroom where she met her future husband Robert, who were married on January 24, 1964. Once her son was born, she became a fulltime Mom/Homemaker. Joan enjoyed reading, local politics, spending time with her family and was an active member of the Cohoes/Waterford Elks for many years.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 PM on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie.
A private funeral service will be held at a later time.
Interment will be at Memory Gardens, Colonie.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association in memory of Joan Oakes.
