Joan S. Lord

COLONIE – Joan Shord Doran Lord, 78, passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2011. Born in Albany, she was the daughter of the late Joseph J. and Catherine F. (Anderson) Shord. She was a 1950 graduate of Albany High School. Joan worked for New York State Dept. of State, Division of Licensing retiring in 1987 after twenty-seven years of service. She was a communicant and Eucharistic minister at the former Our Lady of Angels Church in Albany and also volunteered on their Monday night Bingo team. Joan was a member of the Civil Service Employees Association and the Retired Employees Association, Inc. Joan is the beloved mother of Paul E. (Debra) Doran, Edward C. (Dorris) Doran, Jr. and the late Joseph Doran. She is the loving sister of Edna M. Shord and the late William J. Shord. Joan is the cherished grandmother of Jeffrey P. Doran and Denise D. Doran and great-grandmother of Tyler P. and Brianna M. Doran. She is the aunt of Judith A. Shord (Kenneth) Golombiski and the late Richard Shord. Joan is the cousin of Sister Vivian Secor and the late Harry Weedmark and Howard and Charles Secor. The family would like to thank Dr.'s Abul Azad and Duncan Savage and the entire 6th floor oncology staff at St. Peter's Hospital for their care and support, and The Avenue Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Community Hospice of Schenectady for the loving care provided to Joan in her final days of life.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church, Albany. Calling hours will be Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Interment will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Schenectady, 1411 Union Street, Schenectady, NY 12308 in memory of Joan S. Lord.
