GUILDERLAND-Joan Patricia (Vincent) Niecey- born November 23, 1939 at Albany Hospital, mother- Theresa (Broderick) Vincent, father-Charles Vincent, passed away Monday, August 28, 2017 At Our Lady of Mercy, 2 Mercy Care Lane, Guilderland, N Y 12084, being a resident at Our Lady of Mercy since June 2016.
Joan graduated from Nott Terrace High School, Schenectady, N Y in June of 1957, with the graduation held at Proctors.
Joan passed her Civil Service Exam and then went to work for the New York State Motor Vehicle Dept. for 43 years, last place of employment was Swan St. in Albany, NY. Joan retired from the Motor Vehicle Unit in 2002.
Joan married the love of her life, Peter Niecey, On April 26, 1969, at Union Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Wm Dent, Jr. as the minister, in Schenectady, NY. Her husband, Peter passed on October 27, 2012. Joan and Peter made their home in Guilderland in 1972, and they shared 43 years of marriage together.
Joan was a member of the Hamilton Union Presbyterian Church, 2291 Western Avenue, Guilderland, NY 12084.
She and her husband were very active in the church and served as Deacons for the church, plus other capacities.
Joan's hobbies were reading, collecting teddy bears, making visits to the Guilderland Library, talking on the phone, going to movies, watching TV, going to Crossgates, and traveling extensively in the United States when her husband was alive. Joan was known for collecting refrigerator magnets from all the places she visited. Joan was also known for her wit and favorite sayings when you carried on conversations with her.
Joan is survived by her nieces and their families, Dorothy and Edward Nyszczy Broadalbin, NY and their son, Edward & Mary Ellen and daughters of Stow, OH, Janet and Harvey Salzman of Windham, NH and their children, Miriam Conners and Gary Thomas of Hudson, NH, Rachel and Patrick Lessard of Nashua, NH, Michael Salzman of Milford, NH, Carol and Jeff Umbrell of Doylestown, PA and their sons Joseph Umbrell of Lansdale,PA and Christopher Umbrell of Doylestown, PA, Terri Nobleman of Charlestown, SC and her daughter Victoria Flanders and Kelli and Vidal Rodriguez of Weston, FL. plus their sons Vidal Vincent and Francis Ronald Rodriguez, Joan has several great nieces and nephews that she was very fond of.
Joan also has a sister-in-law, Marlene Vincent of Brant Lake, NY.
Joan's brother, Ronnie Vincent passed on June 3, 2013, who Joan loved and admired very much. Joan has a special friend of 50 years, Barbara Carlin of Clifton Park, who were friends and telephone buddies for over 50 years.
Funeral services will be coordinated by New Comer Funerals & Cremations, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie. Viewing will be at the Hamilton Union Presbyterian Church, 2291 Western Ave., Guilderland, NY 12086 from 1-2pm on Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017. The church services will begin at 2pm with Rev. Stewart E. Pattison, officiating. Interment will be at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Guilderland, NY.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Hamilton Union Presbyterian Church, 2291 Western Ave., Guilderland, NY, in memory of Mrs. Joan Niecey.
Niecey family and relatives wish to thank, Our Lady of Mercy Life Center for their care, patience and dedication of services that was given to Joan duing her time as a resident at Mercy Care. Thanks to Pastor Wally for his time of Pastoral care with Joan.
We also want to thank the Deacons of the church and Ann and Peter McKinney who were close friends of Joan.
