Colonie- Joan A. Wiener, 89, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at the Eddy Village Green at the Beverwyck on Tuesday, April 9, 2024. Born in Albany, she was the daughter of the late Dewey and Henrietta Lenge. Joan is predeceased by her husband, Ferdinand P. Wiener.
Joan and her husband were very active in the Catholic Church. They met through the Catholic Young Adult League in Albany. Together they helped create the "Family Education Program" at Our Lady of Mercy Church. Joan sang and played percussion instruments, was a Eucharistic minister, would bring communion to the homebound, and crocheted prayer shawls that were given out to members of the church in need at Our Lady of Mercy and Christ Our Light Churches. She was also a Mercy Associate and a member of the Catholic Daughters. Joan sang in many community choirs including Festival Choir. She participated in the block rosary group in her neighborhood. Joan worked with Father Peyton for Family Rosary for many years. Joan worked for NYS as a secretary. She was also a scout leader and was an active volunteer in the Forest Park School. Joan was always physically and spiritually active and loved swimming. Above all she was a proud and loving wife, mother and grandmother, and now is waltzing again with Dad.
Joan is survived by her children Claire Maguire (Richard), Ferdinand J. Wiener (Bonnie), Gerard Wiener (Scott Riddle), Joanne Kelly (Keith), Mary Wiener and Christine Morgan (Timothy). She was the loving "MiMi" and "Meema" to Patrick and Sarah Maguire, Christopher Joseph "CJ" Wiener, Rebecca Ayala (Joshua), Brendan Kelly and Kathryn Russell (Connor), Samantha and Katie Morgan. She is also survived by her two great granddaughters.
In addition to her husband, Joan is predeceased by her brother Dewey Lenge (Shirley) and Robert Lenge (Ann).
The family would like to give a special thanks to all the staff of the Eddy Village Green at the Beverwyck for the love and care given to Joan and her family.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice or to the American Diabetes Association in Joan's name.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, April 14, 2024 from 11am-2pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, NY 12205. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 15, 2024 at 10am at Christ Our Light Catholic Church 1 Maria Dr, Albany, NY 12211. Burial will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery.
