Joanne Stewart Burnash, 73, of Albany, entered eternal peace on Saturday, February 6, 2021. She was the daughter of the late Theresa and Roy Stewart. Joanne was the devoted mother of Edward (Chantel) Burnash. She was the proud grandmother of Lauren Burnash. Joanne was the beloved sister of Patricia Stewart, Leon Stewart, Virginia Phillips, Susanne Briggs, Jeanette Frey, Christine Rivers, Kathleen Morrison, and the late Judith Lawton, Nancy King, and Robert Stewart. She had a close bond with her loving niece, Kimmie VanWormer. She is also survived by numerous sister and brother in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Joanne had a big heart which she wore on her sleeve. She was selfless and would help anyone in need. She was very proud of her only child, Eddy. She also loved her lifelong Mount Hope family in the South End of Albany. She looked after them and in turn, they looked after her. Joanne had a special relationship with Dana Galea and Brett Williams, whom she babysat several decades ago. She will be sorely missed by her dear friend, Yvette Henson, and all who knew her.
After retiring from Albany Medical Center in 2018, she enjoyed relaxing in her backyard watching the birds at her bird feeder with a Harlan Coben book in hand and her favorite furry friend Allie by her feet. She also spent many weekends cheering on her granddaughter from the sidelines of her basketball games. Joanne looked forward to her monthly dinners with her former coworkers where she shared many laughs.
For those wishing to remember her, contributions may be made to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Avenue, Menands, NY 12204 or the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 7023, Merrifield, VA 22116.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
