COLONIE-Joanne M. Kearns, 91 of Colonie passed away on Saturday November 19, 2005 at Ellis Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born in Ballyart Brittas, County Limerick, Ireland and was the last of ten children to the late Patrick and Mary Ryan Kearns. A woman of unlimited caring and faith, she was the last of her generation to attain her eternal reward.
Joanne came to the United States in 1930 and began her teaching career that spanned fifty years. She was an elementary teacher in public schools in Maryland, Long Island, New York City and Westchester.
A devout Catholic, she was very active at St. Francis Chapel and her parish community at Our Lady of Fatima. Joanne was a lector, visitor of the sick and a Eucharistic minister. She believed fervently that with prayer all could be accomplished.
Always imparting her knowledge of life, her caring and her love she will be dearly missed.
Although she never married, she knew the love of children through nieces and nephews. She is the beloved aunt of John Wrenn and his wife Brenda and their children Brendan and Meaghan Wrenn; Patrick Wrenn; Thomas Kearns of Ireland, Rosemary Sprague, Richard Gleason; Peter, Richard, Patrick, Kevin and Peter Gleason. Several great grand nieces and nephews also survive.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday morning at 9:00 at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Schenectady. Entombment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Vahalla, NY. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities, 40 N. Main Ave. Albany NY 12203 in memory of Joanne M. Kearns.
