She was the sister of Brenda J Maher of Albany NY and Bonnie J ( Sid ) Maher-Merbah of Kirkland, WA. She was the mother of her late feline children Mikey and Michelle.

She is survived by her very dear friend Helen Knight and many good friends including: Karen & Jim Miller, Linda & Brian Zell, Wendy Morby, Diane Scott, Mary Ellen & Kenny Wagner, Maribeth Lawson, Sharon Chamberlain, and her friends and neighbors on Arlene.
Joanne was a 1972 graduate of Guilderland High School, and had a successful career of more than 25 years in the retail industry. She began her career locally at Korvettes eventually moving to the New York City area where she rose thru the ranks assuming leadership positions at Alexanders, Bradlees's, Canal Jeans and eventually at Caldor's where she led the renovation and opening of new stores. She was instrumental in incorporating the ARC community in the retail environment and served on multiple committees where she formed many friendships.
Joanne was known for her love of dancing, she studied and taught dance for many years, beginning as a child and becoming a dance instructor at age 13 to help defray the cost of her own lessons. She tried out successfully for the Rockettes but unfortunately was too young at the time to be accepted. She was a 1975 finalist in the Tulip Queen Contest and an aficionado of style, fashion and a great shopping bargain. She loved to cook and in her later years enjoyed gardening - especially growing herbs and vegetables to enhance her recipes.
She will be remembered for her vibrant personality, many kindnesses to friends and neighbors, she was always first to lend a helping hand, comfort, care or a provide a delicious spaghetti dinner or her famous sausage, peppers & onions accompanied with a remark to make you smile. She was a genuine friend.
