GUILDERLAND - John A. Sliter, 74, passed away on Friday, April 25, 2008.
John was born on June 2, 1933 in Troy and was the son of the late Alton T. and Irene E. (Meyer) Sliter. He was a graduate of Catholic Central High School and RPI. He was a computer analyst for General Electric for over 25 years until the late 1980's; he then worked for Lockheed Martin in Niskayuna for 10 years before retiring in 1998.
John enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his son and grandsons and volunteered at The Egg in Albany and for the Little Sisters of the Poor. He was a member of the Colonie Elks and the Italian American Community Center.
John is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Virginia Sliter; his son and daughter-in-law, James L. and Wendy L. Sliter of Cohoes; his grandsons, Ethan J and Elliott J.; his sister, Janet Sliter of Kennewick, WA; his sister-in-law, Judy (Ted) Eckler of Guilderland and three nieces and a nephew.
Funeral services will be held at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.) then to Christ the King Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Colonie. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home, where the parish family of Christ the King will gather at 5:30 p.m. for a service of prayer and remembrance. All are welcome.
