John A. Westervelt

November 4, 1946 — April 11, 2012

John A. Westervelt, 65, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at his home, with his son by his side. John was born in Albany to the late Charles J. Sr. and Mildred (Westervelt) Pelkey. John worked for The New York State Department of Taxation and Finance in Latham and retired after 30 years of state service. John enjoyed his '68 GTO; watching all kinds of sports; he was a pitcher at Guilderland High School and coached several Guilderland sports teams when his boys were younger.
John is survived by his loving wife Wendy (Stevenson) Westervelt; his children; Jill Ann Lampe, Erick S. and Jason J. Westervelt, his step father, Theodore Pelkey and two grandchildren. He is the brother of Charles J. Westervelt, Jr. and also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to extend a warm thank you to Dr. Rufus Collea at New York Oncology and Hematology, Community Hospice of Albany, especially Alice, Monica, Tess and Chaplin Joel Janzow for all of the care and compassion given to John.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 3 to 6 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home. Services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Internment will take place at Albany Rural, Menands. Memorial contributions may be made to the Community Hospice of Albany County, 445 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205.
