COLONIE—John B. O'Rourke, 88, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 21, 2011 at the Stratton VA Medical Center with his family by his side.
John was born in Rensselaer, a son of the late Patrick and Agnes White O'Rourke. He honorably served his country in the Air Force and then worked as a locomotive electrician for the New York Central Rail Road. He finished his career as support staff at the University at Albany. John was a lifelong member of the Wiggins American Legion Post and a past member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. John's passion was golf and had many friends at the Western Turnpike golf course.
Besides his parents, John was predeceased by his siblings.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 65 years, Dorothy Moon O'Rourke; loving children, Jim O'Rourke and Debbie Meehan; grandchildren, Frank and John Weldon; 5 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
John's family would like to thank the VA Hospice for the excellent care shown to John during his stay.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, at 2 PM at the New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. (Rt. 155 south of Central Ave.). Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home, Sunday from 1 to 2.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Stratton VA Medical Center, 113 Holland Ave., Albany, 12208.
