FEURA BUSH – John B. Somers, 69, passed away on Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at St. Peter's Hospital.
John was born on August 13, 1944 in Albany and was the son of the late John B. Somers Jr. and Catherine (Hofmann) Somers. He retired from Multigraphics after many years of service, where he worked his way up to district manager from stock boy. He then worked for Mac Tools for six years as a franchise holder.
John's passion was auto racing, but more specifically, Mini Sprints where he drove and built them. He was the 1986 Rookie of the Year with PMRSA and was a multi time feature winner. He also was a Points Champion at the New Lebanon Valley Raceway. He also enjoyed NASCAR, stock car racing, boating on the Hudson River and Seneca Lake, was an avid fisherman and loved dogs, especially his Springer Spaniel, Jackie II who passed away a month ago.
John is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Patricia (Chrysler) Somers; his uncle, Robert Hofmann; his aunt, Ruth Hofmann; nine cousins and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by several aunts and uncles and a cousin.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, August 30th, from 12 noon to 2 p.m. at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family at Memory Gardens in Colonie.
