John B. Vincent

November 24, 1939 — May 6, 2015

John B. Vincent, 75, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2015 at his home with his family by his side.

John was born on November 24, 1939. John was the 8th of 10 children born to the late Harold and Monica (Montague) Vincent in Syracuse, NY. The family moved to Albany and John grew up on Clinton Ave.

John was born again on September 19, 1990 when he believed and received Jesus Christ as his personal savior and Lord (John 1:12-13).

He was a member of the NY National Guard from 1958 to 1961. He worked for Schaefer Brewing Co. from 1961 until it closed in 1974. He also worked for Herzog and Hopkins Oil, Maincare Oil, Albany Co Nursing Home and retired from the Colonie Police Dept Fleet maintenance. John was an active member of Trinity Worship Christian fellowship, being a greeter and usher. He was known as "the candy man" to all of the children there. John always had a ready story for every occasion and his fun loving spirit will be missed by all who knew him.

In his younger years John enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening but in his older years it was traveling to Florida and cruising the Caribbean that gave him the greatest pleasure. Above all John loved his family and though he claimed he was "Allergic to grandchildren", they were the joy of his life.

In addition to his parents John was predeceased by his brothers and sisters; Alan Vincent, Paul Vincent, Gladys Czajkowski, Elaine Zlotnik, James Vincent and Patricia Wigand and his son-in-law Joseph Swift.

John leaves behind his loving wife of 54 years, Dale (Whydra) Vincent, who he always called his "High School Sweetheart", his children; John Vincent, Jr., of Wadsworth, OH, Janine (Lloyd) Plum, of Clearwater, FL., Joseph Vincent of Albany NY and Julie Swift of Rensselaer, NY. He is the grandfather of Jillanna (Jacob) Devik of Albany NY, John Vincent III of Albany NY, Nolan Vincent of Colonie NY, Jenna Twardy, Blaine Plum, Joel Plum, Breann Plum all of Clearwater FL, Justine Swift and Josiah Swift of Rensselaer NY. He is the adored great grand father of Chloe and Chase of Clearwater, FL. John is also survived by his sisters and brother; Haroldeen VanWormer of Latham NY, Berley (Diane)Vincent of Loudonville NY and Paula (Jerry) Schwab of Schenectady NY.

John will be sorely missed by his old school pals Herk Rider and Rolly MacPhee, his New York Giants buddy George Kot, his longtime Bro Burke Foland and his building cohort Bill Gariepy.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Duncan Savage and his staff for their wonderful care and love, as well as Dr. Stefan Swicker and his staff for the many years of loving friendship and care. They all helped to make a difficult trial much easier. Sincere thanks to the Community Hospice, Becky, Doris, Diana for all you do, we are forever grateful.

If our family and friends would like to make a memorial contribution to the Community Hospice, 295 Valley View Blvd. Rensselaer, NY 12144 in John's memory, we thank you.
