COLONIE – John J. Bevilacqua Sr., 80, of Colonie, passed away on Monday April 17, 2006 at his residence, after a brief illness. He was born in Albany and was the son of the late Luigi and Olga Brocca Bevilacqua. He was a graduate of St. Anthony School and the Cathedral Academy.
John was a US Navy veteran serving on the USS Ajax during and WWII and served again later during the Korean conflict. He had worked for 34 years with New York State Department of Labor, retiring in 1981. John was a honorary member of the Midway Fire Dept and a member of the National VFW. He enjoyed fishing, casino's, bowling and attending his grandchildren's activities. He was an avid fan of the New York Giants and Yankees.
He was predeceased by his sisters, Peppa Cotugno and Anna Rossini; his grandson Brian Lindsay and his nephew, Father Joseph Cotugno.
He is the beloved husband of Carol Connell Bevilacqua. He is the devoted father of Corey (Shirley) Bevilacqua, Jack (Julie) Bevilacqua Jr., Lisa (Joe) Lang, Shelly (Craig) Lindsay and Louie (Lori) Bevilacqua. John is the brother of Della Haggerty and Mary Cochetti. He is the cherished grandfather of Corey Jr., Allyson, Anthony, John III, Scott, Michael, Jessica, Gina, Joey, Steven, Jimmy, Aidan, Duncan and Evan. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Relatives and friends are invited to a celebration of John's life on Thursday from 4 to 8 pm at St. Clare's Church 1947 Central Ave, Colonie. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday morning at 9:00 at St. Clare's Church. Interment will be in St, Agnes Cemetery. At the request of the family, memorial contributions are suggested to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 6 Greenwood Drive, East Greenbush, NY 12061 or to Community Hospice of Albany, 445 New Karner Rd. Albany NY 12205 in memory of Mr. Bevilacqua.
