COLONIE – John F. Bounds, 77, husband of Patricia (Amash) Bounds, passed away on April 1, 2025 at his home.

He was born in Guilderland on July 28, 1947 a son of the late Francis and Exilda Bounds.

John joined the Albany Police Dept. in 1972, serving in the Tac Squad, the Arbor Hill Neighborhood Police Unit and the Burglary Unit. He worked as a detective in the Criminal Investigation Unit, Internal Affairs and Administrative Services. He was honored as a Kiwanis Policeman of the Year as well as the VFW Policeman of the Year. He received a letter of commendation from President Richard Nixon.

After his retirement from the Police Dept. in 1997, he became the Assistant Director of Security for the City of Albany School District.

John enjoyed cooking, fishing, hunting, wood working and making wine in his wine cellar.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, his high school sweetheart, Patricia; his daughter, Sandra (Robert) Sponable; his sister, Mary Henriksen and his brother, Edward Bounds.

He was predeceased by his son, Johnny Bounds and his sister, Franny Frennett.

A special thank you to the Schenectady Chapter of Hospice for the loving care they gave to John.
