Niskayuna – John "Jack" F. Burbige, 75, passed away peacefully on October 12th, 2013 at Ellis Hospital following a long and courageous battle. Jack suffered from chronic pain and after many years, finally succumbed to heart and lung related problems. He never gave into the pain nor did he lose his wry sense of humor. When asked how he was doing, he would always answer" Couldn't be better!" For this, and so much more, he will always be our hero.
Raised in Corona, NY Jack was the son of the late Joseph and Ann Burbige. After graduating from All Hallows High School he attended St. John's University where he earned a bachelor's degree. Jack then proudly served his country in The United States Marine Corps. He then went to work for New York State where he met his wife of 47 years, Lillian. Jack retired from New York State in 1995 after 31 years of service. He was a long time communicant of St. Paul the Apostle, where he was a member of The Men of St. Paul's.
Jack is survived by his beloved wife; Lillian Burbige his children; Jim (Carolyn), Joe (Lisa), his grandchildren; Hilory, Jimmy, Nick, Grace, and Caitlin who knew him as grandpa, and Giovanni, Liliana, and Matteo who affectionately referred to him as "Pip". Jack is also survived by his sister Janet (Ed) DeNicola, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
