LOUDONVILLE- John D. Allen 62, of Loudonville, passed away on Wednesday January 12, 2011 at the VA Medical Center. He fought a strong and courageous battle with cancer and endured with dignity and grace.
John was born in Albany and was the son of the late Louis Allen and Theresa Lamar. He served in the US Army, Military Police and recognized with several service medals. John graduated from HVCC with a Criminal Justice degree and went on to work at the Stratton VA Hospital for 28 years, retiring in 2004. He started with Police Unit and spent most of his years in the transportation Department. John truly loved to work with fellow veterans and was loved dearly by his coworkers. He had also worked for the Pepsi Arena when it first opened and with Colonie Manor after his retirement. John had a wonderful sense of humor and always made people laugh. He enjoyed bowling, trips to Maine and playing golf Wii with his daughter Sarah. An avid Red Sox fan, he basked in their two recent championships. John was prideful of his loving family and cherished them dearly.
John is the beloved husband and best friend of Leah Rose Allen. He is the devoted father of Sarah Zoe Allen, Tracy A. Allen, Richard (Shyste) Allen and Daniel C. (Dawn) Allen. He is the grandfather of Jack and Luke Allen. John is the brother of Geraldine Klanfer, Patricia (Ernie) Lembo and the late Joan LaMar and Richard LaMar. He is the son in law of Judith Kraut. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Thank You to all of the wonderful staff at the Stratton VA Hospital, who took such wonderful care of John and became friends, especially the 9th floor and Palliative Care staff.
Funeral services will be Tuesday morning at 10:30 at Blessed Sacrament Church where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Monday from 4 to 7 pm at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie. Interment will be in Saratoga National VA Cemetery. At the request of the family and in keeping with John's wishes, memorial contributions are suggested to Stratton VA Hospital, 113 Holland Ave. Albany, NY 12208 in memory of John D. Allen.
