ROTTERDAM – John D. Burckhard, 81, passed away on Saturday, November 24, 2007 at Ellis Hospital after a brief illness.
John was born on November 8, 1926 in Albany and was the son of the late John A.D. and Emma L. (Peters) Burckhard. He served in the US Navy during WWII, attaining the rank of Seaman First Class. He owned and operated John's Shell/Mobil for 35 years after that he was employed by the NYS Office of General Services for 12 years. Lastly he retired in 2005 from Napa Auto Parts with over 10 years of service.
John is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Shirley (Butts) Burckhard; his children, Kimberlee (James) Ryan of Guilderland, Russell (Tracey) Burckhard of Niskayuna, Jeffrey Burckhard of Rotterdam and Randy Burckhard of Latham; his grandchildren, Nicole S. Ryan, Johnathon R. and Gregory R. Burckhard; his brother, Frederick (Meg) Burckhard of Florida and his nephew, Frederick Burckhard, Jr.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.). Calling hours will be held prior to the service from 4 to 7 p.m. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Guilderland.
