Colonie-John DeGonzague, 84, passed away at home April 5th with his beloved daughter at his side. John was a devoted husband to Gloria (Ropelewski) DeGonzague for over 60 years. He was a life-long resident of Albany, a veteran of the Korean War serving 2 years in the US Army and a proud Abenaki Native American.
Prior to retirement, John was a construction superintendent for multiple general contractors overseeing everything from multi-story buildings to parking garages. He was always first to volunteer to help his family and friends with handyman projects.
After retiring, John and Gloria cruised to Alaska and traveled across the country in their motorhome. John enjoyed spending his winters in Florida escaping the cold, snowy weather of the Northeast.
John loved his family and was quick to make friends where ever he went. He had a great sense of humor up until his final days. He loved nature and was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and golfing.
He survived by his wife Gloria, his daughter Michele McLeod (Bill), grandchildren Kyle McLeod, Jorie McLeod, Kayleigh DeGonzague, John DeGonzague, Danielle Hiller and Ariana Hiller, niece Patrice Hiller and brother George DeGonzague.
John was predeceased by his parents Edward and Matilda (Benedict) DeGonzague, his son Michael DeGonzague, nephew George Hiller and several brother and sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 10th at 9 a.m. in St. Clare's Church, 1947 Central Ave., Colonie. Relatives and friends are invited. There will be no calling hours. Interment will be in Memory Gardens, Colonie following Mass.
