John was born on May 29, 1937 in Troy, NY. He was the son of the late Anthony P. and Elizabeth (D'Agostino) Derado.
John was a graduate of Watervliet High School, Class of 1955. After high school he joined the United States Air Force, serving from 1955 to 1959.
After being honorably discharged from the Air Force, John began his career as a technical engineer at Ch 13 WAST (now WNYT) in Menands NY. He worked at WAST for many years before joining Ch 6 WRGB in Schenectady NY, from where he eventually retired.
After retiring, he enjoyed traveling with his wife of 51 years, Loretta Derado, who predeceased John in 2017.
Anyone who knew John or "JD" as many called him, knew his love of thoroughbred horse racing. He enjoyed many summers with family and friends visiting Saratoga Race Course, as well as other race tracks, where he used his "expertise" to wager on the ponies, and meet some of his favorite racehorse trainers.
John is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Chris Weaver of Loudonville, his grandchildren, Paige (Kevin) McDevitt of Stephentown, Samantha (Weaver) Pommer of Amsterdam, and Brian Weaver of Loudonville, his brother-in-law Jack (Donna) Brant of Latham, as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend their greatest appreciation to all the individuals who provided kindness, care, and compassion to John over the past year, especially the 2nd flr staff at the Eddy Heritage House in Troy NY.
At John's request, services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
The next time you find yourself placing a bet on a horse, please think of "JD" knowing he'd like to be there with you enjoying the day.
