ALBANY, NY – John E. Emmett, 82, of Albany, passed away on Saturday, April 19, 2008, at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Albany on April 17, 1926 and was the son of the late Kathyleen (Doyle) Lasch and John E. Emmett. John served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Teton from 1943 to 1946. He worked for Tobin Packing Company for 35 years before its closing and then worked for Worker's Compensation at the State of New York. He was an avid fan of the New York Giants and the Boston Red Sox. He loved to read and enjoyed family get-togethers. Mr. Emmett was a member of the American Legion Joseph E. Zaloga Post #1520 and the A.A.R.P. #1593. John leaves behind his best friend and love of his life for almost 62 years, Rose (Hartman) Emmett. He was a loving father of two wonderful children, Rosemarie (Richard) Fahd and John E. (Sara) Emmett, III. He is the cherished grandfather of Jennifer L. Fahd, Stephanie L. (David) Lencewicz and Richard C. (Erica) Fahd, Jr. He is the cherished great-grandfather of Brendan, Nicole, Alexa Rose, Noah and Baby Katelyn. Also surviving is his brother, William (Marie) Lasch and his sister, Diane (Raymond) Hughes. Also surviving is his close and caring friend and brother-in-law, Fred Hartman and his sister-in-law, Margaret (the late Arthur) Hartman as well as many nieces and nephews. Always to be remembered the great friendship of true friends for almost 75 years, Helen and Walter Ragotzkie, Donald and Rosemary Kelly and John and Doris Choppa. Thank you to Judi for all the nice things you did, you were a special part of our family. Special thanks to Community Hospice of Albany, especially Alice Baker for her kind and loving care.
Funeral services will be Thursday morning at 9:30 at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Memory's Garden, Colonie. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 107 State Street, Albany, NY 12207 in memory of John E. Emmett, Jr.
