COLONIE – John E. Mayo, 89, formerly of Colonie, passed away on Sunday August 25, 2013 at Saratoga Hospital. He was born in Cohoes and was the son of the late Edmund J. and Mary E. Dushane Mayo.
John was raised in Troy and enlisted in the US Army during WWII. He was employed with General Electric Company in Schenectady for over thirty five years, retiring in 1984 as Supervisor of Quality Control. He had also worked at Sears Auto Center in Colonie for many years. John was an avid car enthusiast and enjoyed working on any type of home project. He played the piano at the Beltrone Living Center on Sunday evenings.
John is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Constance Beach Mayo. He is the devoted father of Bradford (Shirley) Mayo, Judy Patrick, Duane (Lisa) Mayo and Greg (Yolanda) Mayo. He is the cherished Grandpa of Brad Jr., Christie, George, Shawn, Travis, Jonathan. Phillipe, Tony and Sydney. He is the brother of Robert Mayo and the late Albert Mayo. John is also survived by 13 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Saturday afternoon at 1:00 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343, New Karner Rd. Colonie. Calling hours will be Saturday from 11am to 1pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in Memory Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 445 New Karner Rd. Albany, NY 12205 in memory of John E. Mayo.
