John E. Quinn

August 31, 1935 — May 15, 2014

GUILDERLAND – John E. Quinn, 78, of Guilderland passed away on Thursday, May 15, 2014 at the Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany.
John was born in Brooklyn and was the son of the late Edward and Cecelia Quinn. Jack was a gentle kind soul who was a wonderful husband to Marguerite "Colleen" Quinn of 57 years, father to John P. Quinn (Wife Alissa M. Quinn), and grandfather to John W. Quinn and Rachel L. Quinn where he was affectionately known as "Pop Pop". Jack is survived by his sister Cecelia Quinn. Jack and his wife Colleen spent a tremendous amount of time together with their close family who lived one block away, celebrating the simple joys of life. Jack loved spending time with his grandchildren Johnnie and Rachel and their grand puppies Harpo and Bella. Jack also loved to spend time in his garden, was a wonderful cook. He enjoyed doing Civil War re-enactments, and was an avid reader of anything history or Civil War related. Jack enjoyed visiting Ireland with Colleen, to honor their heritage. Jack served his country with the US Army during the Korean War from 1957-1959 and served in France. Jack worked at the General Electric Company for the majority of his career, making sure all signage for GE was up to spec! Jack enjoyed taking photographs of his adventures and kept meticulous photo books, labeled with fine details. Jack and Colleen were celebrating 57 years of marriage. Jack recently enjoyed spending time at the VA in Albany as part of the ADHC, where he greatly enjoyed the company of members and staff. His son John, and his wife Colleen, were by his side at the VA hospital where he passed away suddenly from the advanced stages of Parkinsons. Jack will be dearly missed by his whole family.

Funeral services will be private. Entombment will be in Saratoga National VA Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the VA Hospital, 113 Holland Ave., Albany, NY 12208 or the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway-Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018 in memory of John E. Quinn.
