John Francis Keppler, 90, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Mar 27, 2013 at his home with his family by his side. He was born in Albany to the late Frances (Olander) and John Keppler.
John proudly served in the United States Navy as an EM1 during Normandy; then in North Africa; in the Mediterranean during WWII; through Italy and after the victory in Europe he went to the Pacific and fought during many sea battles up to VJ Day. After the War, John returned home and continued working for GE as an Electrician and Control System Services. He was a member of the GE Quarter Centry Club; a former member of the American Legion, Union Musicians of Albany and the Tri County Banjo Band.
In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his wife, Helen R. (Hurley) Keppler, his grandson Paul B. Keppler and his sister Annette K. Mendel.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Elizabeth Keppler; he is the cherished father of John F. (Paula) Jr., Thomas J.(Donna) Sr., Kathleen (Howard) Stewart, Ellen (Steve) Brown and Eileen Keppler. He is the adored grandfather of John III, Michael, Jay, Matthew, Nicole, Thomas, Dennis, Helen, James and 13 Great grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and close family members.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to The Community Hospice of Albany County, 445 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205 or to the Rotterdam Challengers Tri County Baseball, PO Box 102 Pattersonville, NY 12137 in John's memory.
Funeral service for John will be Saturday at 9:00 am at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie. Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 8 pm at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie.
There will be a Memorial Mass on April 8th at 7:00 pm at Blessed Sacrament Church, all are welcome.
