John W. Foulks, 76, of Albany, NY passed away on Thursday August 2, 2018. John Foulks was born December 21, 1941 to the late Will and Janet Foulks in Okalona, Mississippi. He moved to Albany, NY as a teenager. John attended school in Okalona, Mississippi. He was a Golden Glove Champion and became a professional boxer. John was a brick mason for many years. Starting as one of the first Black mason apprentices in the Capital Region.
John was a founding member of The Brothers a civil rights organization established in Albany, NY. John Foulks' activities in the civil rights movement was referenced by William Kennedy in his book 0 Albany!
John was predeceased by three brother's Bonnie Lee Foulks, Robert L. Foulks and Charles Foulks Sr. and one sister Norma Jean Tucker. Survivors include two daughters Talisa Foulks-Pounds (G. Edwin) Mandy R. Foulks and one son Bo T. Foulks (Amy). Two grandchildren Taliah R. Pounds and Trevor R. Foulks. Three sister's Minnie Foulks, Bette Scott and Minnie Foulks-Askew and one brother James F. Foulks as well as a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Services will be held at New Comer Funeral Home, 181 Troy Schenectady Road, Watervliet, NY, Saturday,
August 4, 2018 11-12. Visiting hours 10-11. Burial to follow at Memory Gardens in Colonie, NY.
