ALBANY- John George Rothlauf, 90, passed away on Monday, June 3, 2013 at the Teresian House, Albany. John was born January 31, 1923 in Albany, NY, the son of the late John G. Rothlauf and Erna Fischer Rothlauf.
John worked in the Sausage Department of Tobin Packing Company from 1957 to 1981. He retired from the Mechanical Department of Albany County Health Facilities in 1989.
John was a World War II Navy Veteran from 1942-1945 serving in the US Armed Guard and abroad the USS Wyoming and the USS Indus AKN#1 in the Atlantic and Pacific receiving two battle stars.
He was a member for 51 years of the American Legion and Past Commander of the A.J. Scully Post 1019. John was a current member of the Joseph E. Zaloga Post 1520.
John was a devoted husband of 53 years to the late Grace Russell who passed away February 12, 2000.
He was the loving father of Patricia Novak (John), Sandra Sexton (Ralph), Susan Harvey (William). John was the proud grandfather of Brian Novak (Christine), Patricia Lynn Meyers (Doug), Kristen Rozbora (Steven), Julie Herrman, Traci Grady (Brian), Jeremy Sexton (Erik), Frank Sexton (Mary), Heather Harvey, Kelly Geddes (Donald).
John was the great grandfather of Lisa Novak, Evelyn and Katherine Manchester, Katherine and Derek Rozbora, Broderic and Allison Herrman, Madilynne and Connor Grady, Robert and Cetta Sexton, Kalin Harvey and Rylee Geddes.
In addition to his parents and wife, John was predeceased by his brothers Robert Rothlauf and Edmund (Gumball) Rothlauf Fischer, a sister Erna Panthen and a great grandson Alexander Rozbora.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Mount Carmel Staff for the exceptional care that John had received during his stay at Teresian House.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 8 PM on Friday, June 7, 2013 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie.
A funeral service will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, June 8, 2013 at the funeral home.
Interment will be at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie.
